I've never heard of a talking tamagotchi, but I think it would be interesting. For some reason, the sighted children were never aloud to take them to school, even though they were onlytoys.

Post 9 by midnight sun (you can't catch me, i'm the palobread man) on Sunday, 23-Sep-2007 7:44:17

i had one and were almost completely able to take care of it myself, and we weren't allowed to bring them to school which doesn't mean we didn't anyway, because many kids get too anxious over them as if they are real pets. and i have never heard of talking ones, but always wished i had one

Post 10 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Sunday, 23-Sep-2007 11:21:38

I think we weren't allowed to bring them to school, because when they beep in the middle of class, or something, it's very distracting for the other students who are trying to learn.

Post 11 by midnight sun (you can't catch me, i'm the palobread man) on Sunday, 23-Sep-2007 13:16:43

that's why we always turned the beep off and brought it anyway. lol. but i think it was because some kids wouldn't pay attention to anything else afraid that it could die

Why do children treat an electronic square thing as if it is an animal? I could understand it if it was a real animal, but not a pretend one.

I know what I am doing on my tamagotchi by the sounds it makes.

Post 14 by Juliet (move over school!) on Thursday, 06-Dec-2007 15:27:46

I honestly was wondering the same thing; if you're going to go to all that trouble, why not just get a real one? I think half the girls I went to middle school with had those things, and were carying them around with them, and one of the girls who rode my bus also had something called a Ciber baby, that was basicly the same principle.
I used to always think they were sending out the wrong message though, because with those if your pet was sick or anything of that nature all you had to do was push one button and he was well again, but what did these kids think was going to happen if they ever got a real pet?

Post 15 by battle star queen (I just keep on posting!) on Wednesday, 12-Dec-2007 22:00:02

My middle school actually bannded them.

Post 16 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Friday, 14-Dec-2007 13:46:35

They have a picture of the creature, and I don't see how one can tell what they are doing by the sounds it makes. It's just beeping to me.

Although I'm not sure if there exist talking Tamagachis (spelling?), I used to have a talking Nano Baby 9which operates on the same principle) when I was younger. In addition to the baby, there also existed a talking nano dog and cat, each of which had to be purchased separately. I am not sure whether Nanos are still available or have been discontinued, since it has been over nine years since I have had one for myself. In terms of accessibility, I could pretty much operate it independently, except for the beginning steps of setting the time/date and giving the baby a name, all of which did not provide audible feedback apart from beeps. It was also necessary to memorize the order of items in the main menu and settings list, since items in these too are only indicated using beeps. Otherwise, pretty much everything else apart from checking the baby's health (which, if I remember correctly, could be figured out anyway) was announced verbally or via sound effects, although the picture of the baby on the screen could give a sighted person instant feedback. Now, bearing in mind that it has been quite some time since I've had one, here is what I remember it being able to do.

-- Announces if it is tired, hungry or sick, or if it wants to play
-- Gives verbal feedback wen it is pleased or if it has had enough of something (such as eating)
-- cries when it has been disciplined if it misbehaves (Note that if you discipline it too much, you could discipline it to death)
-- Plays a wiping sound when you have to clean its face or a toilet sound when it has to go to the bathroom
-- Plays the corresponding sounds when it is being fed, given a bottle or administered medicine
-- has two games which you can play with it, one of which is more accessible than the other (I have found Perfect pitch to be somewhat helpful in the more accessible of the two, since it requires copying a series of combinations of four different beeps using the keys, kind of like the game Simon for those who are familiar with it)
-- Grows up over what I believe to be a nine-day period. Every three days, the nano reaches a milestone in its life, indicated by the happy birthday song being played, after which its voice becomes deeper than before.

Okay, so I didn't intend to give the complete review of the talking nano, but I feel like that's what I ended up doing! :). It was definitely one of my favorite toys at the time!

hmm interesting. I guess a search on google may bring something up! man I'm so getting one if there is such thing :)

Post 20 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Wednesday, 19-Dec-2007 4:24:50

me too. Those sound like lots of fun, unless you discipline it to death. lindsey, did you learn that the hard way?

Post 21 by battle star queen (I just keep on posting!) on Wednesday, 19-Dec-2007 23:44:49

In response to the last post I leared it the hard way whenI disciplined mineto death. ButI did it because annoyed me.

Post 22 by Gilman Gal (A billy Gilman fan forever and always!!) on Saturday, 29-Dec-2007 7:42:55

I am so getting one of those, and the reason why we don't just go and get a pet for children is because having pets is a big responcibility, and at least with a computerized pet it teaches kids responcibility with out putting to much on them. okay I am going now, see you later.

Post 23 by Lindsay3.14 (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Monday, 14-Jan-2008 23:07:02

Yep, Joanne, I did learn it the hard way. Lol.

Post 24 by Ginny Weasley (Veteran Zoner) on Tuesday, 22-Jan-2008 23:28:27

I have loads of tamagotchis. I also have a talking nanno. I emailed the people that invented them explaining to them how I couldn't see the screens because I couldn't see and that the talking nannos were the only ones i could do almost completely indipendently. They emailed me and said they'd send me a free one! I got the nanno baby around thanksgiving but i need to get a new battery for it.

Post 25 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Wednesday, 23-Jan-2008 13:22:45

time for me to get one. they sound like they're a lot of fun to take care of.

Post 26 by cuddle_kitten84 (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 27-Jan-2008 11:46:27

wow. a lot of posts. i'm certainly going to see if one's around. i brought a syber dog recently which we thought would be accessible but it wasn't so it ended up going back to the shop. I also want one of those dolls that are like real babies. we used to practice on one in child development and the teacher could set the level, easy or hard.

Post 27 by Ginny Weasley (Veteran Zoner) on Thursday, 13-Mar-2008 19:19:08

I didn't know they sold those. They have a new version of tamagotchis out tomorrow. You're supposed to be able to care for mor than one at once. I think I'm getting one soon. They sound cool. Tamatalk already has codes and passwords for them.

Post 28 by Thunderstorm (HotIndian!) on Thursday, 13-Mar-2008 20:14:44

lmao, I'm really surprised of linsey's post. since I've never seen one so far.

Post 29 by rdfreak (THE ONE AND ONLY TRUE-BLUE KANGA-KICKIN AUSIE) on Friday, 14-Mar-2008 4:48:12

never heard of a nanno, but off I go to do a bit of research Lol :)

Post 31 by Caitlin (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Saturday, 15-Mar-2008 4:39:24

Dude! I so want one of these things! I was totally left out of the tamagachi fad and it made me sooo sad.

Post 32 by Ginny Weasley (Veteran Zoner) on Saturday, 15-Mar-2008 9:07:05

yeah. they're pretty awsome. They're a lot mor fun than the talking nannos

Post 33 by Caitlin (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Sunday, 16-Mar-2008 2:24:17

So...which ones are accessible? Can someone like give me a direct link so I make sure I get one that's good?

Post 34 by Ginny Weasley (Veteran Zoner) on Sunday, 16-Mar-2008 19:28:44

I don't know any direct links. I know the talking nano is a bit mor accessible than the tamagotchis, but it isn't as fun. I am a bigger fan of the tamagotchis. It's a bit harder, but you can figure it out usually with sounds and some guessing. :) They don't make the talking nanos anymore.

Post 35 by battle star queen (I just keep on posting!) on Tuesday, 18-Mar-2008 2:12:47

I had a talking nanno baby at on point until my sister got really pissed off at it because it wouldn't stop talking and she smashed it against the wall and then it wouldn't work any more.

Post 36 by Ginny Weasley (Veteran Zoner) on Tuesday, 18-Mar-2008 11:46:54

Yeah. That's what happened to my first one too.
